Matt Smith. I’m quite excited because I saw him playing Jim in The Ruby and The Smoke and I think he did a top job. I’m not saying that it will be easy for him to live up to all the past performances of the Doctor, but I think he will do a good job in his own way. You can see the Matt for yourself by watching the Doctor Who Confidential Special The Ten Doctors, by going here:

Oh and Happy New Year everyone, I hope it’s a good one.

it seems David Tennant is still injured, but  reports say Edward Bennett is doing a great job as his understudy, it would be a bit rude of me to just copy and paste all the information here as I didn’t get it myself,  but anyone who wants to read the full statement by the RSC go here.  http://www.david-tennant.com/

but if you’ll forgive me, I’ll make sure there are regular updates from now on. I’m currently trying to write stories about surprises on holiday and eating in your sleep. I’m also re-reading Jane Eyre. Oh and watching the repeats  of Dr Who on iplayer. Lovely stuff.

When I was searching like a mildly obsessed maniac trying to find out what happens in Doctor who next week, I found something so weird I felt I had to tell the world about it. Remember those paper cut out dolls you used to be able to dress in a choice of clothes? Well here’s an online version where you can dress David Tennant if you wish!

The best new band in a good while, I for one can’t wait for their debut album, which is due around September. Their lyrics just blow me away,  here is Geraldine, their current single.

A laid back folk vibe, nice harmonies and a mix of meaningful and quirky lyrics. Here is a video of them performing ‘Illuminated Red’ live in London. I will be doing a full review of their album ‘There Were Wolves ‘ soon.

Sex and the City: The Movie June 24, 2008

having been quite a major fan of the series I was as excited as anyone about finally getting to the the movie although I was also dubious as they ended the series so well that I really wasn’t sure how they were going to find a story for the movie. And it seems unfortunately I wasn’t wrong, it just felt like without wishing to give too much away they had to rip apart the happy ever after they’ve given us at the end of the series in order to make a movie out of putting it back together again.

So although I enjoyed it to an extent there was a bit too much weird angst for me to really rave about it. But then I went to see it a second time and I really enjoyed it. I’m glad I got the box set at Christmas because they have all dissappeared.

There are so many things that make this film so good. For me, the first thing is the music, the memorable quirkiness of the soundtrack and the aptness of the lyrics knits the whole thing together. Next is the almost unreal amount of clever one-liners or just completely new phrases, for example “desperately seeking spawn”.

Another aspect of this film that really draws the audience in is the uniqueness of every single character Ellen Page’s performance of Juno as somehow flippant but also very deep is really engaging.

The story itself I felt was a really original covering a lot of subjects that you don’t normally see in films, at 1 pointI thought the story was going to turn around and become totally predictable but luckily that didn’t happen, it stuck to its original path and became even better because of it. For once you can believe all the hype this film is as good as everyone says it is

Here are a couple of videos from the soundtrack along with the trailer.

The Uglies trilogy by Scott Westerfeld February 12, 2008

I finished what was the final book in the original trilogy recently. The trilogy consists of Uglies, Pretties and Specials. I like the ideas it was putting across and the messages it tried to give the readers. For example the main character Tally Youngblood, is always challenging the authorities around her and questioning the way it forces people to conform to their ideas.

I loved the way it encourages people to question how today’s society does things, particularly in relation to waste and the environment. The other thing that grabs the reader’s attention in this trilogy is the technology that is used in Tally’s world, some of the inventions are really cool like hoverboards and while some of them are really scary for example in specials when they start to talk about internal software. Personally I hate the idea of humans and computers ever mixing like that.
